This therapy works by increasing the temperature of the afflicted area to soothe discomfort and help increase muscle flexibility. Using heat will improve blood circulation and blood flow to the area it is applied to. This therapy is useful for treating patients who experience chronic pain. You should not use this type of treatment to treat any type of fracture, sprain or dislocation.
Cold Therapy
Also known as cryotherapy, it works by reducing blood flow from the area applied too. This will help swelling that causes pain (around a joint or tendon) and it will significantly reduce inflammation. This form of therapy could temporarily reduce nerve activity, which could also help relieve pain. You should not use this therapy for chronic types of injuries. Patients who have circulatory problems or neuropathic problems might not be recommended for this type of treatment.
